BROWN, John Henry. History of Dallas County, Texas, From 1837 to 1887.
Dallas: Milligan Cornett & Farnham, 1887. First Edition. 18mo (6.75" x 5"). Printed paper wraps; 114pp. Wraps show some soiling and edgewear, a few small punctures, and some chipping at head and tail of spine. Parts of spine rubbed away, revealing gatherings beneath. Abrasion to inside front cover matching a small, clean puncture to title page. Binding is sound and pages are unmarked.
With a varied career as a newspaper editor, soldier, state legislator, and pioneer historian, and after living variously in parts of Texas, elsewhere in the US, and in Mexico, Brown settled toward the end of his life in Dallas. He became a member of the state Constitutional Convention of 1875, as Dallas alderman in 1885, Dallas mayor from 1885-1889, as well as a justice of the peace from 1888-1890. Raines' Bibliography of Texas mentions special attention in this volume to the pioneer settlers of the Dallas area.
